In that case a bleach bath is something you should consider.
This remarkably easy and effective technique allows you to mix bleach with shampoo.
Making for a gentler, slower, more controllable lift.
Plus it allows you to go right up to the roots.
And it's especially good for short hair.
In this blog we are going to show you how exactly to do it.
What Is a Bleach Bath?
A bleach bath is an equal mix of bleach, developer and shampoo.
The shampoo in the bleach bath mixture dilutes the strength of the product, providing a base to your mix which makes the mix gentle, easy to apply and essy to rub in with your hands.
When Should You Consider a Bleach Bath?
Use a bleach bath when you want to bleach and lift the entire head including and up to the roots.
A bleach bath is perfect for gently removing color build-up or dark tint from the hair.
It's also great for short hair.
It's a perfect way to lift the tones consistently everywhere as a precursor to applying toner and taking the hair blonde.
Without harsh damage.
When Should You NOT Consider a Bleach Batch?
If you have a dark root that needs lifting up to the level of the rest of the hair, then a bleach batch will not be right.
You need to make a targeted bleach application at one part and not touch the rest.
Otherwise you could overprocess the lengths.
In this case it would be better to apply a regular bleach mix and apply with a brush at the root area only.
What You Need to Do A Bleach Bath
We recommend the following products:
Brilliant Blondexx Bleach with Bond Protect
20 Vol Premium Developer
Brilliant Blondexx Shampoo
Pour out the following into a plastic mixing bowl:
- 2 scoops Brilliant Blondexx Bleach.
- The same amount 20 Vol Premium Developer
- The same amount Brilliant Blondexx Shampoo
All products contain Bond Protect, making them the ideal products to use in a mix that is going to go all the way to the root area.
Then mix until smooth and creamy. It will be wetter than the usual bleach mix owing to the shampoo.
Apply to Damp Hair
Start with towel-dried hair and apply the mixture evenly from roots to ends, gently massaging it in as if shampooing. Use plastic gloves of course.
This allows the product to distribute uniformly and lift hair evenly.
Process and Watch Closely
Leave the bleach bath on for about 5–15 minutes, depending on your desired level of lift.
Pay particular attention to the root area. It's going to lift faster there because of the heat from the scalp.
Once it reaches the right level at the scalp, you need to wash off the whole mix.
Because it processes more gently, it’s safer for delicate hair or when working near the scalp.
Rinse Thoroughly
Once the desired lightness is reached, rinse well with warm water.
Follow immediately with Brilliant Blondexx Shampoo to cleanse and remove any residue.
Condition with a Purple Toning Mask

Finish with a purple mask such as the above. This will get rid of yellow tones and prepare the hair for a regular toner.
Tone with Your Choice of Toner
You should have got the hair to a very nice level 10 very pale yellow.
If so, you can one of the the following ammonia-free toners:
Blondify Natural Violet Blonde 010V
Blondify Natural Ash Blonde 010A
In case the hair is still very yellow (in other words, you have only got it to level 9 not 10) then use either of the following toners. They contain regular lift (about 1 level) and are highly pigmented also:
Pearl Blonde 10V
Silver Blonde 10A
Always monitor the hair during processing. The lift and the tone that the hair is taking on can vary depending on porosity and previous color.
