The Technology:

How does Bond Protect work?
Brilliant Blondexx Lightener addresses the following common problems associated with hair bleaching:
1. Hair damage and breakage during bleaching
2. Scalp irritation
3. Limited lifting capacity
4. Hair health deterioration after bleaching
Unique solution:
Brilliant Blondexx contains maleic acid, a Bond Protect technology, which offers several benefits:
1. Forms a polymer that bonds with hair fibers, making hair thicker, stronger, and healthier
2. Reduces the chance of breakage, even with multiple applications.
3. Creates long-lasting bonds that withstand humidity, brushing, blow-drying, and repeated washing.
4. Lifts hair up to 7 levels while maintaining hair integrity.
5. Allows for near-root applications and up to 3 consecutive applications in one sitting.
This innovative use of maleic acid in hair bleach results in perfectly white blonde hair that remains healthy throughout and after the bleaching process.
Directions For A Full Head Application
Use 20 Vol Developer for 1-2 levels of lift, and 30 Vol for 3 levels of lift and more.
Mix 1 part Lightener to 2 parts Developer.
Make fine sections, starting from the back, where it is thicker. Then work your way round.
Try to saturate the hair really well with product.
Work fast to give the entire head a relatively even processing time. You can use foil on the lengths. This will help keep heat in and process the hair faster.
Hair near the root is thinner and gets heat from the scalp. You should apply here only towards the end, with 20 Vol.
Always watch carefully while the mix is processing, checking for hair condition, elasticity and lift.
There is no fixed development time for bleach and you should be prepared to rinse as soon as the hair is ready.
For an ultra-white blonde result, lift the hair until all orange and yellow has been taken out: a true level 10.
If the mix starts to dry out in certain parts or is lifting less fast, you should make a fresh mix on those parts and re-apply.
After 30 minutes processing time you need to rinse.
If the hair is not sufficiently lifted, re-apply making a fresh mix.
Directions for A Near Root or Regrowth Application
Use 20 Vol Developer only (never 30 Vol on the root area).
Make your mix 1 part Lightener to 2 parts Developer.
- Apply to the dark regrowth near the root, making fine sections.
- Be generous with your product and make sure that the hair is drenched with your product mix.
- If you have mid-lengths or ends which also need lifting, make a fresh mix in the last 10 minutes and extend.
Rinse when the hair has been lifted up to level 10 lightest yellow.
After Bleaching
Tone with Ugly Duckling toners.
Finish with Purple Shampoo and Mask to remove the last yellow and to close the hair cuticles.
- Finish with Brilliant Blondexx Shampoo and Mask to make blonde hair stronger and less prone to breakage.
Some Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Bleaching
Whens should I rinse off my bleach?
The actual application time is typically between 25 to 40 minutes but there is no fixed rule. You need to keep watching and checking and be prepared to rinse as soon as you have reached a very light pale yellow level 10. Do not rinse the hair until you have reached that level.

I’ve been doing my hair for decades now and as a Latina I’ve always struggled with getting my hair bleached to the correct lightness. It’s always been some sort of orange afterwards and it’s always taken like three or more applications even when professionally done. This bleach not only got my hair to a level 10 in one application, it also didn’t leave my hair feeling like straw afterwards! This is now my go to bleach and I’m never using anything else!!

This stuff is amazing! I was always WAY too nervous to attempt bleaching myself, but finally bit the bullet when Covid struck. I’d been using Pulp Riot Lightener Rapid Lift Bleach, but the 1st process always left me orangish, & I always had to bleach a 2nd time. I decided on Ugly Duckling Blondexx after doing some research. I have level 6 roots with the rest of my hair being previously bleached to level 9/10. I used 30 vol developer & could literally see my roots lightening after only 5 minutes after I started applying it! I have really short hair, & I applied it to ALL of my hair. I left it on for a total of 40 minutes (from beginning of application). After rinsing, my level 6 roots were a level 9/10, & all my hair was left totally uncompromised. No breakage AT ALL! I shampooed with Brilliant Blondexx Shampoo with Bond Protect. Then I applied Brilliant Blondexx Mask with Bond Protect, covered with a processing cap, left it on for 30 minutes, rinsed & dried. I kid you not, my hair looks better than it does when I have it done at my salon! Less yellow, better condition & more shine!

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of the bleaching process. My 4C hair was already turning white but it was not coming in all over, so I decided to bleach the black hair.
You were very right in the top I use the 20 volume first then I reapplied 20 volume. That was perfect so I tested your theory the stylist the colorist who used to do my hair that said it was so difficult to change and it would never change without 40 volume and your bleach is bomb ass. I love it , I love it.

I purchased the Brilliant Blondexx lightener with bond protect powder and 20 developer. This product lifted virgin black hair color in about a half hour. It became very warm while on which wasn't uncomfortable but made me nervous. I left it on for approximately 40 minutes total. This product did not damage my hair. After washing and adding my color, everything rinsed out well and my hair was as if I had never processed it. I highly recommend this product!
This bleach lifts more levels and gives even lift wi the h out leaving your hair like straw. When used with UG developer it is absolutely marvelous. Best results ever !!!!

Since I began using the Blondex I have never turned back. While Ugly Ducklings varieties may be lacking they vastly make up for it with the quality of their products. I use a daily light weight oil and bleach my hair at least every 2 months (whenever my roots start showing too much), my hair has never been healthier. I've also used the hair mask and shampoo from this line. They're great if you're starting of with badly damaged hair. So to sum it up I think Ugly Duckling succeeds where Splat fails. Could use an update on they're products but that's just imo.
I’ve been bleaching my hair for a few years now and this is a very mild bleach that did not cause my scalp to be irritated. FYI I wear my hair LOW so bleaching was easy and fun for the first time in awhile!
I always had blonde hair growing up but as I got older my hair has gotten darker. I wanted to go back to my blonde hair for a more youthful appearance. Using the Blonde X bleach and this toner has made my hair back to the color I had naturally in high school. So easy and looks great!

Amazing product got my hair safely super blonde. Definitely need to know what you are doing but only took one bleaching and less than 3 hours for the entire process including toner. I was impressed.

I ordered the bleach and toner tube and it was perfect ! I have watched multiple ugly duckling videos and tutorials and they are very thorough. The way the steps are described are great . I received the products and did my hair and it came out wonderful! It is the perfect icy blonde just as described. I have always bleached my hair myself and in salons and have never had the perfect color until now . I would highly recommend ugly duckling products !
I used this bleach for the first time today. I usually bleach my roots once a month and have tried different powder bleaches and the Ion crème lightener as well. The Ugly Duckling bleach outperformed all of them. My hair lifted more in the same amount of time and I didn’t have to add any bond protective serums to ensure my hair’s integrity. I will be using this bleach exclusively from now on.
