How to bleach black hair blonde: a comprehensive guide for hairdressers:

BY SALLY MADISON

Introduction

Bleaching black hair all the way to blonde is an art that requires precision, expertise, and the right tools.

For hairdressers, achieving the perfect blonde result on dark, or even black hair is a common request.

Using the right bleach is crucial for success here.

In this guide, we will explore the process of bleaching black hair and how you can achieve blonde hair from black using Brilliant Blondexx Lightener.

Understanding the Challenge

Black hair is rich in melanin, making it a challenge to lighten effectively without causing damage.

Hairdressers must consider the hair's health, integrity, and the desired end result when selecting a bleach.

Brilliant Blondexx Lightener  is specifically formulated to address these concerns, providing a solution that ensures beautiful, even results while minimizing damage.

Why Choose Ugly Duckling Brilliant Blondexx Lightener?

There are several reasons why we would recommend this bleach.

1. Creamy white mix

Brilliant Blondexx bleach, when mixed with developer, produces a unique creamy, oil-like mix. It looks and feels more like a hair color mix rather than a bleach.

2. Protects the scalp

Ugly Duckling contains Bond Protect.

As a result you can place your bleach mix on the scalp area without fear of irritation.

3. Prevents split ends and hair breakage

The Bond Protect not only makes the bleach application more comfortable.

It also prevents hair breakage and split ends.

As any hairdresser knows, the ends of a client's hair tend to be the most fragile.

That hair is literally older than the new growth, around 2 years older if it is shoulder length.

Not only that: it has probably been bleached and colored many times, and also been blow dried many many times.

That's where using bleach with Bond Protect is really helpful.

The creamy, white oil-like bleach minimizes damage to the ends, helping to maintain the hair's integrity throughout the lightening process.

4. Lifts extremely fast

This bleach is a fast lifting bleach. There is no compromise there. You get fact, effective and controlled lift.

Brilliant Blondexx bleach provides up to 9 levels of lift, in fact, using just 20 or 30 Vol developer.

This makes it one of the most powerful bleaches around for transforming black hair into blonde.

5. Consistent, even results

Ugly Duckling's Brilliant Blondexx Lightener ensures even and consistent results.

This is crucial when working with dark hair, as uneven lightening can lead to an undesirable patchy appearance.

The formulation is designed to lift color uniformly, providing a seamless transition to a blonde hue.

6. Reduced bleach smell

The bleach's pleasant fragrance minimizes the discomfort associated with the strong odors often present in traditional bleach products.

This is especially important for both the hairdresser and the client, creating a more pleasant salon experience.

7. Controlled processing time

Ugly Duckling Brilliant Blondexx Lightener allows for controlled processing times, giving hairdressers flexibility based on the hair's starting color and desired end result.

This ensures that the bleach works efficiently without compromising hair health.

Application Steps

First, prepare the hair

Bleach is best applied on dry, unwashed hair. Ask your client to not wash the hair for a couple of days before her visit.

Begin by sectioning the hair and applying a protective barrier cream to the scalp and hairline.

This will prevent irritation and ensure a clean application.

Mix your lightener

Mix Brilliant Blondexx Lightener with either 20 Vol (1-3 levels lift) or 30 Vol (greater than 3 levels lift).

The right mix is 1 part bleach to 2 parts developer.

This will give a smooth, consistent creamy white mixture.

It will be wet enough to really saturate every individual hair strand.

At the same time, it will not drip off your coloring brush.

Apply the bleach

Use a brush to apply the bleach evenly.

If this is a root application on black hair, then apply on that part first.

Then extend on the lengths as required.

If this is a whole head application, start from the mid-lengths or where the hair is the most in need of bleach (black, brown or orange as the case may be).

Then return to the root area to prevent over-processing.

Work in segments so that every part of the hair can come into contact with the bleach mixture, and work as fast as you can.

Monitor processing & re-apply fresh mix as required

With bleach, you need to keep checking to monitor the lightening process.

Since you are trying to take the hair blonde, your goal is to see palest yellow, the color of the inside of a banana.

So no orange, no bright yellow, and is possible only very very light yellow.

Most probably, with black hair, you are going to find that after around 15 minutes, the hair is still orange or orange-yellow.

If this is the case with you, don't wait or hesitate.

Make a fresh mix, this time using 20 Vol. (it's always 20 Vol for a second bleach application).

Then reapply generously.

Rinse and Neutralize

Make sure that the hair gets to that inside of a banana.

Then rinse with tepid water.

Follow up with an acid-based shampoo or mask

In order to stop the bleaching process and restore the hair's pH balance.

If at all possible, we recommend that you use a purple toning shampoo or mask such as Brilliant Blonde Purple Mask.

Products such as these tone away any remaining yellow and close the hair cuticle at the same time, returning the hair to its natural acididty.

Tone the hair

After bleaching, you do need to tone. Ugly Duckling has a fairly wide range of toning products.

A few of of them are provided below for your convenience.

Intense Pearl Blonde Toner - Pearl toner with added lift.

Intense Silver Blonde Toner - Natural extra white toning (added lift).

Extra Light Cool Blonde - Platinum blonde toning

Conclusion

Bleaching black hair is a transformative process that requires precision and the right products.

We do recommend that you use quality products such Ugly Duckling Brilliant Blondexx Lightener to protect the hair and to get a powerful lift all the way to blonde at the same time.

We wish you the best of luck in your black to blonde transformation.
