How do you lift dark roots with high lift color?

High lift color is basically color with extra ammonia added for added lift.

In addition, high lift color is typically used with 30 Vol developer rather than 20 Vol.

These 2 factors allow a hairdresser to achieve up to 5 levels of lift on hair.

Does high lift color work on all hair?

Provided the hair is natural and not colored dark, yes it will most definitely work.

And as the root area is typically natural and benefits heat from the scalp area, it typically lifts very well with high lift color.

Which high lift color should I use for my dark root?

Ugly Duckling has several high lift colors.

For pure lift, use Highlift Blonde 100.

For lift and ashy toning, use either Highlift Ash Blonde 100.10 or Highlift Deep Ash Blonde 100.11

For lift and golden toning, use Highlift Intense Golden Blonde 100.30.

You can also mix these high lift colors. That typically works very well.

How do I mix and apply these High Lift Colors to fix my dark root?

For maximum lift, we would suggest you use 30 Vol developer.

Make a mix of 1 part high lift color to 2 parts developer.

Stir until you get a really nice, consistent paste.

Get an Ugly Duckling color whisk if you don't have one, they are for sale on the site along with mixing bowls & soft bristle brushes.

Then apply on the root area.

Let it process around 30 minutes.

Then at this stage it is very often a good idea to make a second mix, this time using 20 Vol developer.

Re-apply and extend all the way through to the ends.

This allows you to produce a consistent blonde look with no visible line of demarcation.
